Middlewich

Middlewich is a historic market town in the heart of Cheshire, that boasts a timeline of history spanning over 2,000 years.

Middlewich is fiercely proud of its Roman heritage, and was dubbed ‘Salinae’ by the invading Italians due the town’s abundance of salty stuff. Timber framed housing, pottery and the remains of clay-lined salt evaporation chambers have all been excavated in the area.

The Canals of Middlewich and its salt history are very closely linked, and many generations either lived on the canals or worked in the salt-making industry. Today the canals are used mainly for recreation,and Middlewich sits at a key junction point on the Cheshire Ring.

Middlewich boasts a diverse events calendar that includes the Middlewich Roman Festival, Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival, Middlewich Rose Fete, Middlewich Transport Festival and a Beer Festival.
