Bridge Street Memorial - River of Life
Historic Site
Located in Bridge Street the River of Life stands as a memorial to the victims of the 1993 terrorist bomb, which killed two young boys and injured dozens of citizens. Artist Stephen Broadbent worked with local school children to design 12 plaques, which line the street surrounding the River of Life.
Bridge Street is full of history and there is plenty to see as you walk along it.
Most of today's buildings are about a century old, dating from the late 1880s to the early 20th century when the street was rebuilt and widened.
As you walk along, stop to look up above the modern shop fronts. Each building is different, compare the materials and the decoration and look for the date stones.
