neston marsh

A mile-long stretch of saltmarsh between Marshlands Road and Moorside Lane. Large reed beds, brackish pools and tidal creeks provide a variety of habitats.

The area around the stream outfall at Neston Old Quay is a traditional wintering site for Water Pipits.

With patience, Jack Snipe and Water Rail can be found in the vicinity.

Neston Reed Bed holds a large number of Reed Warblers and Sedge Warblers during May to August and small numbers of Grasshopper Warblers occur annually.

Little Egrets are frequent on the tidal flashes near Denhall Quay and highest tides produce spectacular numbers of roosting waders, including Black-tailed Godwit and Gray Plover.
