A vast expanse of ungrazed salting with tidal flashes, viewable from the roadside pavement. Tides exceeding 10m can inundate the marsh and provide spectacular birding. View from the Old Baths car park at the north end of the parade.
Huge numbers of wildfowl and waders, notably Pintail and Black-tailed Godwit, occur on the highest tide, together with Peregrine, Merlin and Short-eared Owl. There is a good chance of Hen Harrier, Water-Rail and Jack Snipe.
The boathouse flash holds a good variety of wading birds in most months of the year. Little Egrets are frequently seen here and Greenshank numbers can reach 30-50 in August and September.
